The first thing to know is within this scheme, account can be opened for any girl who has not yet attained the age of 10 years. The plan has been launched recently and this is the reason, there is an additional relaxation for one year who have attained the age 10 by the date 10th December 2014. Thus, girls who are born on or after 02.12.2003 are eligible, if their accounts are opened by 1st December 2015. But for the girls born before the date of 02.12.2003 are not eligible. This is a tenure incentive and thus, you need to verify your child’s account by offering the “birth certificate” and that certificate needs to be issued by a competent government authority.
One of the major benefits of this scheme is it is very much affordable for a huge number of people who are in financial necessity for securing the future of their girl child. And it offers the highest rate of interest. The maturity of this account does not have anything at all to do with age of the girl and know that the sooner you can open this account, the sooner you shall be able to receive maturity amount. Also, people are allowed with partial withdrawal which is not more than 50% before maturity for the purpose of marriage or higher education. The legal age for marriage of any girl is 18 years so, a Premature Withdrawal in SSY for marriage shall take place only after the girl attains 18 years age.
